I guess a true Apple // enthusiast has spoken.... :-)

While in some way true, I wonder if your statement is useful....

Supposed we modified an Apple // such that it ran at a clock speed of
a few GHz and was fully PC compatible and capable of running all the
latest versions of Windoze and of various other PC software, and also
was fully capable of supporting various modern PC devices such as CD
or DVD burners, USB ports, the best PC graphics cards - you name it!
While in principle not impossible, doing this would definitely be "a
bit more difficult" -- but if we really did all this, would you still
want to call that modified computer an Apple // ?????

If you frown at the idea, remember that during the earliest days of
the IBM PC, there were 8088 cards you could plug into your Apple //,
enabling it to run early MS-DOS software. Yes, for some time you
could even buy MS-DOS on Apple // formatted diskettes. These cards
were advertised as "the card IBM don't want you to buy" because it
ran somewhat faster: at 5 MHz compared to the 4.77 MHz of the IBM PC...
