Hi, the Sonic Blaster plugs into a slot and the cable plugs into
the Ensoniq connector on the motherboard (J25, I think).
You do not need drivers and you do not need to set the card
to 'your card.' The Sonic Blaster is just an
amplifier/demultiplexer. It works completely transparently.

The MIDI isn't very well supported, I hear. There is an update to
DiversiTune that will work with the Audio Animator. I don't know about
other music software.

Which makes me wonder... if there was a piece of software with a
patch specific to a particular sound card (Audio Animator), are
all the sound cards able to be used "slotlessly", or do some (which?)
require using the "Your Card" setting?

If you're just using the card for playback then the slot setting
isn't important. If you want to input sound then you need a slot set
to "your card".
