How can I tell if a drive is a SuperDrive? I picked up an Apple 3.5" drive from Salvation Army. It looks just like an 800K drive to me. But it has a hand-written sticker on the front that says "1.44MB SuperDrive". I don't have a SuperDrive controller card so I can't verify that it actually is a SuperDrive. The sticker on the bottom just says "Apple 3.5 Drive".
As David and Bill mentioned you can physically check the drive mechanism. OR an oddball way to find out would be to use the AEHD driver. With the AEHD driver if you have an 800k drive it works pretty similiar to Apples 3.5" driver but if you're using a Superdrive with the AEHD driver the IIgs won't recognize HD disks formatted at 800k. It'll want to format them at 1600k which it can't do. Wayne
