I doubt we would have done anything to Osama unless we invaded
Afghanistan much earlier. And there wasn't any reason to do so before
9/11.

The Saudi's didn't want Saddam gone at that time. They wanted him as a
buffer between them and Iran. However Iran's political climate is
changing a bit with the younger generation and it's not as bad now as it
was in 1991.
One of the US plans was to go all the way to Baghdad and take out the
main forces of Iraq instead of the low-quality soldiers that were for
the most part left on the line. But the Saudi's nixed that plan.
That's pretty reasonable. I might quibble with a few details, but it's a
rare pleasure to read a post on this topic from someone who has the Big
Picture.
It seems like most people make up their mind first, then ignore any facts
that confilct with their view.
