I believe I had to remove the PS from the IIgs, then remove the top cover
(lots of little screws along the sides hold that on) and then remove the
screws holding the fan. Then I think I had to remove some kind of clamshell
housing to get at the fan innards.

I think I looked into one of my other Vulcans, and saw it had a different
fan.  So your situation may be different.  In any case, they all seem to
seal the bushing/bearing area with a sticker, though sometimes there is a
little plastic cover that you have to pry out after removing the sticker.
