I have to agree, the 1702 is a great monitor. In fact, it's my primary
television set right now (having hooked up a Sony VCR (tuner portion to
cable/tv), and hooking up a composite video cable out on the VCR to the
composite video in on the 1702 monitor.
However:
The Commodore 1702 **WILL** work absolutely fine with any Apple II, or for
that matter with any device that outputs standard composite video. It has
a regular Composite Video and RCA mono audio jacks in front, and it has an
RCA mono audio and "Commodore Video" (seperate LUMA and CHROMA) jacks on
the back. You select between the two different video capabilities with a
slide switch on the rear of the monitor which says "FRONT/BACK".
So to summarize, the Apple II has composite video out (all models,
including the Apple IIgs). The Commodore 1702 has composite video input.
They work just fine together.
Blake, I'm not sure why you say that the Apple II does not work with the
Commodore 1702 monitor. I can prove otherwise. I have every single model
in the Apple II family, and with the exception of the Macintosh IIe
emulation card, all models output composite video and thus are compatible
with any monitor that has a composite video input (such as the Commodore
1702).
