And that was just the line coupler!  The modem itself was on a card
that plugged into, typically, slot 2.  The "actual" modem on the card
was a Cermetec subassembly that was covered with Glyptol!

Not only did it work well, it established Hayes as the standard-setter
for personal computer modems.
