Yeah, I barely remember my Apple // BBS downloading days.  I remember
ZModem being the easiest to use, as (if using the right software) it
would start up the file transfer for you and didn't have that
Xmodem/Ymodem ACK handshake delay at the end.  And I remember the
Applecat modems downloading *sooooo* fast!  My first modem was a
pulse-dialing 300 baud Hayes MicroModem II that I bought *used* for
like $200.  It was box-like with a semi-clear plastic casing which you
could see through.. the chips and a single red LED.
