It's spinning up, then spinning down? I believe it's detecting a hardware
problem. Try the freezer trick, then try swapping the circuit board from an
identical drive. If that doesn't work, DriveSavers can recover it. At
enormous expense. The last time I sent one in (CPA wasn't regular about his
backups) it cost $1300. He gladly paid it. You might get by for half that,
his drive sounded like a cement mixer.
