Re: Apple II VIDEX card query

Hi (again),
My Apple II Europlus came with a VIDEX card, which I understand is for
80 column text (it displays OK without it).
Yes, the card is only for 80 column display, 40 column mode doesn't use
it.
Couple of questions please. Firstly, on the top left corner of the
card is a 5 pin header, the top two pins of which have a lead attached
with a phono plug. I assume this plugs into the motherboard video out?
If so, is their an 80 column video out somewhere on the header?
No, the Videx Videoterm came in a couple of configurations.
The basic one plugs into a slot (preferrably 3) and has just a video
output. The problem is in 80 column mode the computers video jack is
effectively non-functional and you have to use the card output. While
in 40 column mode you have to use the computers video jack and the card
has no output. This was the setup I first had with my first II+.
There was a couple of optional "add-on" video switch boards. One was
an automatic one that provided both 40 and 80 column modes through
the cards output.
Secondly, what software do I need to enable 80 columns, can I switch
between 40 columns and eighty columns?
Some word processors use 80 column, others can be patched to use it.
You can also enter 80 column mode from basic by typing PR#3 and
pressing return(assuming the cards in slot 3).
If you want a pdf of the manual email me. It's about 1.3mb in size
