Hi all, just managed to break back into the world of Apple IIs after, well,
a 15 year absence. I have just got some disk drives (1 x 5.25" and 2 x 3.5")
for a IIgs I received for free (thanks Terry and Leslie) a while back.
Firstly, I have to say its good to be back. A lot of good memories started
flooding back when I booted a few floppies.
I spent the first couple of nights (after getting the drives) getting a disk
that would boot - transferring the dump of dos across the null modem, then
transferring over ADT, ShrinkIt, GS Utils etc - with the aid of the
comp.sys.apple2 FAQ.
I have to say that the FAQ is absolutely brilliant, one of the most useful
things I have come across on the web in quite some time, a big round of
applause to the authors.
Now then, I am looking at putting a compilation of useful things onto a dos
3.3 disk for convenience.
I started remembering back in my old a2 days numerous "hello" programs on
dos 3.3 floppies that contained multiple programs. They all pretty much had
the usual stuff, run, catalog, lock unlock a file etc, but there was one I
remember as being my favourite.
It was just a basic program - it would display the catalog of the disk, and
there would be text indicating what actions certain keys would do (such as
lock, unlock, delete, run, etc) and this text would scroll around the edge
of the screen (and not just across the bottom line).
Does anyone have a .dsk image of a disk with this program on it ? Or even
just a an email with the basic code would be great.
I guess it wouldn't be too hard to whip something like it up, but I haven't
done any basic programming in years now, so I thought I would ask here.
I downloaded a lot of game compilation disks from asimov, but most of them
have the selection program that displays stars in the background.
Anyway, cheers for now.
Martin
