I use an HP deskjet all the time. I just got a Laserwriter 6L. I use
Appleworks GS or GraphicWriter III with Pointless and drivers from
Harmonie to print in True Type fonts. The grappler+ and cable seem to
be the easiest to come by, though there are others you could use. The
Grappler has dip switches but the software overrides them.
