In one corner:
A shiny new 2002 Macintosh dual-1GHz G4 running MacOS 10.2.
In the other corner:
A somewhat battered 1987 ROM-00 upgraded to ROM 01 Apple IIgs single-3MHz
65C816 running GS/OS 6.0.1
The IIgs has a couple of serial ports, either of which could be used for
LocalTalk; a SCSI hard drive, a 3.5" drive, a 5.25" drive, and a SCSI Zip 100.
The G4 has an Ethernet port, a couple of FireWire ports, a couple of USB
ports, a DVD-RW drive.
I'd like to be able to move data between these machines, but it seems that
they have absolutely nothing in common anymore. And to add insult to
injury, Apple has decided not to support LocalTalk in OS-X, probably
because they haven't built a machine with a serial port in something like
three years.
Setting aside for the moment the fact that I need a serial port to talk to
my hand-held (hey, if I can get the G4 and the GS talking to one another I
can let the hand-held talk to the GS and go from there...) I wonder if
there are any tricks I am missing. Do I need a LanceGS...will that do me
any good trying to talk to the G4? Do I have to abandon thoughts of
Localtalk and slum it with FTP?
And on the Mac side, does anybody know how I can remap this idiotic
keyboard so that the CONTROL and CAPS LOCK keys are in the right place?
If I can do it in Windows at work, I ought to be able to do it in MacOS at
home! (I'd rather just hook up a IIgs keyboard, but...er...there's no ADB
port either...)
