2C AND 2e (ENHANCED) have the mini assembler back in the roms.
Type !<ret> from the monitor prompt.
If the prompt changes to a !, then you are in the mini-assembler.
If you have a 2+ with 64k you can always load integer basic, switch
to INT from FP,
jump to the monitor, then F666g <ret> to enter the monitor.
Make sure your INTBASIC file on your Dos3.3 is 50 sectors long,
the smaller, later version does not have the old monitor rom in it.
