the gearbox that the eject motor drives is possibly the problem. I have seen
two of those break. if you hear the motor spin when you eject and the GS
locks up waiting for it to spit out and won't give you control until you
drag out that paper-clip, then the gears are broken. fortunately the
superdrive gearbox/motor is a suitable exchange and they are a dime a dozen.

it only took me a week to get fed up with the paper-clip thingy. if you can
last longer than that then you are not easily annoyed :)
