Actually I can give you some useful suggestions. Bear in mind you are asking this question in an inappropriate area. This is an Apple// group and not a Mac group. You'll want to ask your question in a Mac group. Just follow the same procedure you used to get here and look for "mac" not "apple".

An external modem is fairly easy to set up. It's just like the Apple//. You need a highspeed modem cable, the modem manual (you should be able to find this from the net), power, and a connection to a phone jack. Most external modems can get by without installing a driver. All you need to do is install the init string in your dialer program (you ARE running at least System 7.5.3 R2 to use Open Transport aren't you). If you are running an older program (like ZTerm) you will be doing what we Apple// folks do. The init string will have to be put into your terminal program.
