Once uppon a time I was scrounging at Goodwill.  I found a IIe that had been 
crushed.  The top was totally stoved in, plastic cracked  keyboard ruined, but 
it had some cards in it, so I bought it (since it was only a couple of bucks 
and I figured it would be parts if nothing else..  GOt home and looked 
carefully at my purchases.  I was looking at the back of it and ... HUH?  what 
are ADB plugs doing on the back of this???

looked inside and> I'LL BE D**NED!  Its a GS motherboard!  Flipped over and the 
tag on the bottom says Apple IIGS.  This was the motherboard and base pan of a 
IIGS Upgrade kit.  Some folks with just the motherboard have made these in the 
past by cut and file on a IIe pan, but this is the real McCoy!

Well since the top was ruined I sacraficed a IIe I had, unbolted its top and 
swapped.  I now have what looks like a IIe on top, but in reality is a IIgs. I 
pluged an old IIe 10 key pad into the proper plug inside, and the IIe keyboard 
into its plug.  I have a Logitec ADB mouse in the ADM port and it works like a 
IIgs  (sort of...)
Since these Upgrades look like a IIe but are really a GS, the slang term from 
them are:  STEALTH.
The advantage of this arrangment these days is that longish cards that normally 
don't fit in a GS case (like the Z80 STAR CARD or the like) fit fine in a 
Stealth,  Also, since its an all in one design you need a smaller desktop 
footprint.
