The Echo card goes in any slot 1-7, including 3! You must have a speaker or
headphones plugged into it so the sound it generates has somewhere to go--you
don't just plop it in a slot and expect your A2 to talk.
You probably have the software to make talk right now--AppleWorks! Put your
Echo card, with speaker attached in, say, slot 2, run AW and bring up a word
processor file. Then designate another printer for slot 2 and call it Echo
Card. Finally, print to Echo Card in Slot 2. Your Apple II is now talking.

I have a ROM 3 IIgs with no other cards in it. I've tried PR#ing the Echo II
from 1992 in both slot 4 and slot 7. Slot 7 caused my IIgs to crash into the
monitor at $00E000, and slot 4 just displayed the notice Not a Startup
Device. >>
