Doubtful it is at deaths door. Probably a dry solder joint, when it cools down
and contracts it makes contact again and all
is well.

Yep, but you aren't going to get as good a resolution as an RGB unless the
composite is very high bandwith i.e. greater than
about 30 MHz the Amdek 300 got up to about that.
