Willie: On a ROM 1 Slot 7 must be set to Appletalk (and therefore, you loose 
that slot) and slot 1 or 2 must be set to Your Card.  On my Rom 1 a Apple HS 
SCSI is in slot 2 and a Focus Drive  in 1. Both are  set to Your Card.  Now, 
here is a trick I found:  If you boot from slot 1, the Appletalk MUST be in 
the modem port. If you boot from Slot 2, Appletalk must be hooked to the 
Printer. In other words: you cannot have the Localtalk cable plugged into the 
port associated with the slot you boot from. I don't know why, I just know it 
is...
