Apple never dropped support for 800KB disks, Mac OS 9.2.2 still supports
them. Perhaps you are thinking of MFS, the original Mac filing system used
on the old 400KB disks? This was dropped in Mac OS 8.
Mac OS X doesn't have drivers for the Mac's built-in floppy drive at all,
although there is an open source driver in alpha. I don't know if it
supports 800KB disks or not. You can still use USB floppy drives, but of
course none of these support 800KB disks. Also, there is no longer any
support for the ProDOS file system.
