Marsha: Thanks for the Appleshare 2 or 3 server suggestion. and for the
Appleshare CDEV!
I have done such before and was mainly in this exercise just tinkering with
yet a different way to move things around my net. Appleshare 2.0 lives on a
SE/30 which is currently on the shelf. I played with 3.0.3 for a time but the
Quadra 950 it was living on died :(
Right now I use a LC III running 7.1 for multiple purposes; 1 it is the
Localtalk Bridge to and from the GS, 2 it is accessable from a Windows 98
PC running COPSTALK. This LCIII serves as a waystation for lonely files on
their way to the computer of thier final destination.
Note OS X is NOT addressable across a net from a PC running COPSTALK. Since
most of my downloading takes place on that 98 PC (sorry guys, but it really is
faster), I was also looking for ways to get stuff to the OS X via Appletalk
(or Copstalk which is after all merely an appletalk varriant).
I have yet another Mac on System 7.5.5 (A 575) in my shop that runs DAVE ver
1.0 so I can copy stuff BACK to the PC from the Mac side.
I should also mention that OS X is not accessable from a PC running the TOPS
network protocol; I run a 386 on a TOPS card, connected localtalk to a Mac
running LT Bridge. WHY? Well it was there, and well, it was a challenge and
well... it was there.. ;-)
