Re: Focus drive
I've had to replace my original Focus IBM 500M 2.5" drive that played up a
while back, ie wouldn't boot properly. After I tried re-formatting the
original several times with the Focus Formatter, had the machine re-loaded
and working for a week or two, which dropped to a day or two, then every
boot it would have problems. I eventaully gave in and bought a new 750M
drive about a year later. Funny thing was that it kept passing all the
tests, but would fail on a cold or subsequent warm boot at the drop of a
hat. A floppy boot often fixed it, then it seemed alright for another day
when it would just stop booting off the Focus again.
Something to try to get you out of trouble is to boot a standard 3.5" GS/OS
floppy. It need not have the Focus driver installed, but may allow you to
get access to your vital files on the other partitions. You might not get
the partitioned drive icons on the individual partitions, but probably
standard hard drive icons, but that shouldn't matter.
If you get that far you can then copy your valuable files onto blank
floppys. If you have larger quantity or sizable files it won't be so easy.
you might have to make an AppleTalk GS/OS boot floppy (and I don't know if
that's possible) and try to transfer you files over AppleTalk to an
AppleTalked Mac.
