Hi Tom,

    One additional note.  You didn't mention where you live, but if you're
in the Bay Area or maybe in some town that has "Computer User" magazine, a
free publication, there are plenty of ads for dial up accounts.  Of
course, you'll have to check for if shell accounts are available.

    BTW, "going to mainstream", doesn't mean abadoning how you get your
email!  Despite the point and click nature these days, I still use Pine,
nominally a Unix app, as a desktop app on my Win 98 machine to fetch my
email and post to the newsgroup here.  I have never been a fan of web
based email or even clients like Outlook or Eudora.  I find Pine's
keyboard interface just fine for me.  :)
