     When one of the filter caps blows, yes. Otherwise, no, not in the
standard power supply. (There may be a relay; but, it isn't going to be
moving much.)


     In general, leaving the IIgs ON all the time is probably not a good
idea. Constant heat shortens the life of electrolytic capacitors and 
accelerates aging/brittleness of the case and other plastic components.

     Unless your IIgs is connected to a UPS, while it is ON, it is subject
to surges and spikes which may appear on the power line.

     Whether or not it is connected to a UPS, your IIgs could be subjected
to many ON/OFF cycles should AC power fail for several minutes, and then go through ON/OFF periods-- could be rough on your hard disk.
