I seem to remember reading something online a few years ago, about someone
who always left his IIGS on, and then when he went away to college, his
parent's electrical bill dropped by about $30 a month.
 
If a IIGS really costs a buck a day to keep on all the time, that mounts
up. So, if you'd bought a IIGS when they first came out, and left it on
constantly, that's more than $4,000 wasted.
 
Even if it's only a dime a day, electricity doesn't grow on trees and we
should all be practicing and advocating conservation.
