Re: ANN: Web Browser for 8 bit Apple //
Well I wrote a fine and well thought out astute reply, a veritable gem of
English prose.. to this thread but, like a fool I did it on a Windows machine,
ended up with a GPF, and lost the whole blasted thing. I say this three times:
NEVER EVER trust a Microsoft platform with something important....
One more time...
I am sitting at my desk which has a PC, Mac and GS on it. The Mac is because
I happen to like that GUI, but it also provides a link for localtalk
communication to the Apple IIGS
I also have an AAUI to ethernet adapter on the Mac and it and the PC are
plugged into my Linksys router/hub/802.11b thing that is hooked to my DSL
modem. The IIGS via a LANceGS is ALSO hooked to the router so I in effect
have two network paths into the GS: 1 localtalk, 1 ethernet.
I COULD use the Ethernet link to FTP files back and forth but, I like GUI and
prefer Appletalk for that. I use Ethernet ont he GS for websurfing via
Arachnid, and communications with online forums such as Syndicomm via
Spectrum. Other TCP aware apps are out there for the GS and more are being
developed all the time.
A wire from here alos heads down to my shop where we find 2 more IIGSs, 2
IIe(s), a Commodore, Newton, more Macs and more PCs, and other boxes, all
networked in a combination of wiring and networking schemes.
If you look in this group's FAQ there is a link to a description of where I
have been on this networking path and also in the Febuary issue of Digital
Civilization: http://www.digitalcivilization.ca/february2002/index2.html
There is a articpe I wrote on retro networking.
What you want to do, can be done. Why anyone in their right mind would want
to I do not know in that, I am not...in my right mind that is...
