"I got the cable and followed your instructions on the switches but the
jumper block is confusing. You say arrow should point down but the
manual says the modem posit is up."
The arrow on the super serial card should point down because you need
the card in terminal mode in order to use a standard modem cable as I
suggested. If you point the jumper up, you will need a Null modem cable
instead of the regular modem cable you have now. (Switching the jumper
saves you $6.)
..."how I am supposed to send files. Is this a protocol transfer or do
I still dial the modem?"... "Also, you set the switches to 19000 baud
but say both modems should be set at the same speed and the max is 2400
on the apple mode."
We are not using modems, we are using serial ports set at 19200 baud
with a 'null modem' connection. (Null modem means _no_ modems.)
Set up your terminal program to point to the serial port on each
machine, not the modem. Then configure each terminal program to
communicate with the following settings: 19200,8,n,1.
Once the terminal programs are running and set for 19200,8,n,1 and the
cable is connected to both sides, you may transfer files or type
messages on the opposite computer's screen.
Then you activate the comm software's file transfer option and send
files one to the other.
BTW, many times I have run into PCs that do not switch baud properly.
Try shutting down (TURN OFF COMPLETELY) the laptop and restart it and
try it again.
Hmm, did I misunderstand and your terminal software for the Apple does
not go above 2400 baud? If so, get some different software for you
Apple II so you can transfer stuff.
Thankx,
Ed
