If you want to dial in directly with your IIe, you need an ISP that offers
shell accounts. Good luck finding one in 2001. :-| One possibility, though,
would be to "create your own shell account" by throwing Linux or *BSD onto
an old 486 (or whatever you can get cheap/free). Set it up to dial into
your ISP (any ISP will do) and hook your IIe into it through a null-modem
cable. It'll be just like getting a shell account back in the day...except
that your ISP ten years ago didn't give you root. :-) (With this setup, you
could also upgrade to cable-modem or DSL access.)
