Hmm when I did this last year, I had similar results except I had an
apparently brighter LED.  I layed the 2nd (red) LED on top of the power
LED and aimed it towards the front so it's brightest part shined on the
plastic tab.  It had enough power to change the color of the light from
green to distincly orange.  It was held in place by the wires, run
between the sound socket connector and the chip right there next to it. 
So no tape, no glue, no mods, just positioning, worked slick.  Of course
the LED has burned out since then, it's like it was never there.  :(
