Re: interface card for the PC to read & write apple2e floppies

There are SCSI interface cards available for the IIe as well
as IDE interface cards. You can still get some IDE type
hard cards for the IIe/IIgs.

The Floppy drives used in the Apples used a format called
GCR(??) which is a multispeed format unlike the standard
format of the PC which is MFM. You can't read a Apple
disk using a standard PC drive mechanism. There was a
card which supported the Apple Super Drives which were
1.44 meg format and that can be read on a PC. I have
accessed Mac encoded disk on my PC using the 1.44 meg
format since it was using the MFM technology. In fact,
I have been able to make disk images of Mac floppies and
make Mac floppies from images using a program called
WinImage and TransMac. The II disk are similar to the
Mac encoded disk and hence you can read them on a
Mac using Apple File Transfer utility in System 7.
