Re: Need MacPlus help

Fair enough. I can sympathise with wanting to help. If an Apple// related question were asked there would be no problem. However if we start answering Mac questions *here* then we will be flooded with Mac people who want this group for their own. Just the same way they took over Apple usergroups. It's not a question of "hostility" to Mac people. It is better for them and us just to send them to a Mac group where they can get their questions answered in an appropriate area rather than encouraging them to ask Mac questions here.

FYI, I also own a couple of older Macs and a couple of PCs. To talk about them without a reference to the Apple// machines I own would be inappropriate considering the nature of the group. As an old timer (Apple// owner since 1983 and on the net since 1986) I see it as a matter of relevance and demarcation. Mac only questions are relevant in Mac groups. Apple// only questions are relevant here. Questions which relate to both are relevant in both areas.

If you check past posts you will find some of my replies to off topic posts turn the question around to an Apple// question. Like the fellow who was trying to get a Mac monitor to work with his PC SVGA card. By pointing out the Apple// also had an SVGA card, and if he could get it to work on his PC it would work on an Apple// the thread then was made relevant to the newsgroup.

This is the wrong newsgroup for this thread. See my follow up on the "How
do I...." thread for where to take this.

Why are you unpacking them on the PC? The Mac uses
forked files which the PC won't understand. Maybe that
is the source of the problem? Try using Stuffit on the Mac
and not the PC.

OK, I admit it, I'm a MacDummy. It's been over 12 years since I used a

Mac.

I have installed TransMac in my PC, hooked up the Mac drive to my SCSI

card

and everything is fine. I can copy files, etc. I also have Stuffit

Expander

for Windows. So I'm downloading all these Mac files in .hqx format,

Stuffit

expands them just fine, I copy them to the Mac drive, put the drive

back

in

the Mac, and the files all appear as documents, not applications. Mac

is

running System 6.0.3. I'm TRYING to get it updated to 7.0.1.
What, may I ask, am I doing wrong?
