Re: Apple IIc

And if after cleaning the heads, I would recommend try to boot a known good
disk, while at the same time adjusting the drive speed pot underneath the
IIc, until the disk boots. If you look under the IIc there is a small hole
about 1/8" dia, you need a small metal (for strength) jewellers screwdriver
to adjust the speed. It's a little tricky getting it in the right spot. Then
run a speed check/adjusting program such as the one in Copy II Plus.
I have used this method to boot a dead clone before, where I did not have
another compatable disk drive to try on it.
Another method you may try is to plug in an external 5.25 drive, power up,
hit ctrl-Reset and type PR#7 to boot a disk in the external drive. I think
this only applies to early ROMs AFAIK. For late ROMs ONLY you could use a
3.5" Unidisk drive (NOT Apple 3.5) if you have one. It will boot
automatically after it checks the internal drive. Then run the drive spped
adjustment program off the 3.5 to set the internal 5.25.
