Re: GS upgrade for IIe?
I have one of these beasts. The motherboard looks like a standard ROM
01 board except: on all my other ROM 01s the IIe keyboard plug is not
there; just the solder strip where it would go. This one has the plug.
Also, the standered GS Power plug is accompanied by a IIe square box
plug. All other things look the same. Bottom of it has a label that
says "Apple IIGS Upgrade"
I picked mine up at Goodwill in very sorry shape; keyboard was craked
in 2 and missing most keys, top trashed, etc. It came with a mouse
card in Slot 4 so I think that is how the prevoius owner got around
some of the above mentioned limitations.
I put in a AE power supply I had, and swapped the top for a newer IIe I
had. It now looks like it did the day the dealer sent it home.
By the way, many cards will not fit this machine due to the limitations
of the box dimensions (Such as most larger GS memory cards). The slope
of a IIe case is far different then the square of a GS.
The upgrade was a great idea, LOUSY implementation.
but finding and restoring one was kinda cool ;)
