Yes, SuperConvert will generate a font chart but it doesn't tell you
how to type those characters from the keyboard.

As Roger mentioned, there is also the Video Keyboard NDA that comes
with GS/OS. This does a pretty good job but doesn't help you find out
how to generate the characters that take multiple keystrokes to
generate.

The best option I've seen is a CDEV from My eSource (formerly Seven
Hills) called Super Menu Pack. This CDEV allows you to make the
Control Panels NDA menu item in the Apple menu into a Heirarchical
menu so you don't need to actually open the Control Panel window to
open up any particular CDEV. It also gives you the option of having
standard Font menus list the font names using their actual font so
that you can see what the font you are selecting looks like before
selecting it.

The last thing it does, and the one that is most relevant here, is it
will display a window of "exotic" characters by clicking and holding
down the mouse button in either the upper left or upper right corner
of your screen. This displays a window of all the characters in the
current font and it you point at a character, a line at the top of the
window will tell you what you need to type to generate that character.
For instance, to get a u with two dots above it you need to type
Option-U followed by u. In that same window there is the word More...
that you can also click and it changes the window so that you can
click on characters and they will be added to a line edit control at
the bottom. This way you can type using your mouse and then copy and
paste what you've just typed out of the line edit and into your
document.

Unfortunately, My eSource has been getting a pretty bad reputation for
taking a long time to ship orders lately so hopefully someone else
will pick up this product from them and make it more readily available
as it is quite handy.
