Jen,
This isn't exactly the correct newsgroup for these questions. This
newsgroup deals primarily with Apple II computers, which was the original
computer developed by Apple, long before the Mac. But, since comp.sys.mac
will likely flame you for not getting an iMac, and the questions were clear
enough...

First, check www.lowendmac.com. They have quite a bit of useful info. That
mac can use just about any internal or external scsi device. Replacing the
hard drive with any scsi hd up to about 4 gigs should be no problem. System
software for it is free to download. Most external cd drives are scsi, but a
few were made to work with pc parallel ports, so be careful. Finding them
can be a bit tough, granted, since they don't make them anymore, but if
someone wants more than $10 or $15, they are ripping you off. Also, there is
no reason why this mac can't use a scsi zip drive, or the jazz drives that I
see every once in a while, that are scsi. Scsi flatbed scanners also should
be fun to play with. Ram should be either 72pin simms, or maybe the older
30pin. Either way, quite standard and cheap. If the LC has a PDS slot, good
luck finding cards for them... maybe ebay, if you know what you want in
particular.

Offhand, I can't remember if the Classic predates the LC or not. The classic
was one of the last monoputer macs, and the LC one of the first slimlines,
IIRC. Similar software for both.

Now, since I have helped you despite the off-topic post, I hereby require
you to buy an Apple IIe the next time you happen upon one at a reasonable
price (Anything more than $15 and you can be excused). If you like old
computers, they are easily just as fun as the LC. Besides, they can share
the external CD drive, in all likelyhood. ;-)

Thanks,
John Oyler
