Hi,
I finally decided to have some fun and get my //e networked to my primary
compter (Linux PC) and have run into a few problems...
Originally when I acquired a Workstation card for the //e I set up a
second disk on my crusty old Mac running System 6 and AppleShare file
server with network booting turned on. This setup worked pretty well, but
I wanted the //e bridged into the ethernet so I could share files directly
from my linux box, and also share my printer with the //e, which would
aid transfer of software to/from the //e no end..
So I proceeded as follows:
Set up netatalk on my Linux box. Did this years ago, and has been
filesharing to Macs over ethernet just fine ever since.
Set up localtalk bridge software on the Mac. Seems to work Ok.
The //e is localtalked to the Mac just as it was when I network booted it
from the Mac.
The linux machine can "see" the //e using nbplkup so I guess the logical
link layer of the network is working ok.
The problem is this. When I run the AppleShare II Workstation software and
attempt to log in, The program reports an unexpected error, and quits.
Strangely, this happens when attempting to log into either the linux box's
netatalk server, or the mac running sharing on a folder.
Also interestingly, if you get the user/pass combo wrong, it reports an
authorization error (both netatalk and the Mac), but when you get them
right, the unexpected error box pops up.
Anyone have any ideas ?
Cheers,
Matt
