That's exactly why I said "many" instead of "any" because I know that some
holders would act. As for the law codes go, if the holder doesn't press the
issue then there's little that the law can do against the thief, short of a
slap on the wrist since copyright violation is not a federal offense. That's
one of the unfortunate flaws in the legal system.

For each one that expresses displeasure, that I cannot convince to release
as freeware(of any kind), I would assist in helping as you claim to do. For
those that do not express displeasure, I would not act at all in their case,
short of trying to convince them to release as freeware. I would consider
acting on behalf of these seemingly non-caring people a waist of time, not
to mention overstepping my bounds.

You mean as people have done you for being to assanine and insulting? Look
QC, I know just as well as you how "free" this country is. What I'm trying
to tell you is that acting on the behalf of the holders that express no
desire for the violations to stop is just as much a violation as that of the
pirates who steal the software. In both cases, the violator is taking upon
him/herself to act in the capacity of the copyright holder.

The point of that somewhat loosely constructed example was that if I don't
press charges, there's nothing more the police can do. That means that you
have 2 choices left... either wash your hands of the situation or try to
stop the thief yourself. You've been choosing the latter. The only problem
is that in doing so, you've violated my rights, the rights of the
thief(ironic, isn't it), and a hand full of laws regarding vigilantes.

So let me now ask you this... is it ok to break the law to stop someone else
from breaking the law?
:-D
