Freeware is clearly and generally defined as being free (no $), but
copyrighted. Public Domain is defined
as free in all respects (no $ either), including the permission to alter
the source at will - that's why it's "(in the) public domain", while
freeware is not.
All other 'definitions' on websites are just plain off the mark
(probably put there by 15-year olds who don't know any better..)
