     Was just wondering the same thing. It looks like a new, unrelated thread
was kind of grafted onto your question.


     Regarding the no-color problem, are you sure you have a PAL-compatible
monitor?  (One check would be to see how the monitor works displaying video
from a PAL VCR.)

     If you are sure the monitor works correctly with PAL color and that it
is set to display color, then, suspicion falls upon the cable connecting the
monitor to the //e and the //e itself. A cable which acts like a heavy
capacitive load or one which has a high resistance in the signal path might
kill the Color signal.

     Otherwise, the problem may be a messed up Color/Mono switch or a
socketed IC which has some pins which are making poor contact. (You could try
scootching up and resocketing any socketed IC's.)
