Re: Reclassification - Eunuchfication celebration continues

Regards, Rosy..

 *>Grettings, Quantum_Cat.

Hmm.. had to look that up to see if it was an obscure curse.
;)

*> Yes; that does seem to be true ... now. However, in
early 1997, it was
*>an old GEnie project which had run out of steam. Tom is
the one who got
 *>things rolling again.
 *>

Perhaps it did run out of steam while folks were worried
about the demise of Genie, and the reins weren't handed off
smoothly, but claiming Tom was the one to get it going again
is... absurd. ;)

At least you'd have to provide more evidence that support
your assertion.

*> An irony is that interest in reclassification
probably got the biggest
*>boost via an effort that failed-- i.e. the trials and
tribulations involved
*>in finally tracking down the real owner of Word Perfect
and finding that he

Uh.. Yeah. After he had posted it and claimed to have
permission. Is it any wonder that the "Word of Turley" is
synonymous with "lie"?

*> Of course, Tom's success with Medley/gs was a boost,
too. It showed
*>that getting important software reclassified was doable.

Wellll.... Applewriter, GraForth and others from Paul Lutus
were hardly unimportant. I suspect we can lob rocks at each
others "Important" list all day, and get nowhere. In any
case, getting software reclassified IS a boost, no matter who
is responsible.

I'd be overwhelmed if the Dorktor actually did some and
provided evidence.

*> The resulting interest and discussions led to
consideration of a Csa2
*>effort to get more old commercial software officially
released for free
*>access. About this time, Willie Yeo volunteered to set up
the Treasure Chest
 *>Project.

I understand that Willie's efforts are individual. At least
I haven't seen a "Csa2 effort" assisting him. Any efforts by
the Dorktor seem to center around his own "publications" and
ignoring Willie.

*> Evidently, Howard began to revive the Lost Classics
project some time
 *>in
*>1998 or 1999. It is not easy to be sure because he seems
to post here

About the time of the migration from the floundering Genie to
Delphi, I think.

*>anonymously. (Which is his right; but, as a result, giving
credit is more
 *>difficult.)

I don't remember seeing Howard post here. I think he saves
his efforts on a forum that appreciates the efforts he and
his assistants go through.

After all, why would a Turlette care? "Big Deal. I've had
that in my stash for years.."

Well, it sounds a lot like revisionist history to me. ;)

Troll bait-- just a
 *>little dab.

No prob. ;)

*> As for the so-called "illegal pirate sites", that
discussion is ended.

Oh? And the verdict?

BTW, Screaming "We won! We won!" doesn't cut it. ;)

*> You might as well know this: Whatever they are
called, they are
*>supported by the overwhelming majority of users. They will
remain and, very
*>likely, expand, because they are necessary.

One day, Rosy, you're going to have to share how you get your
statistical data.

For example, before you could find out if a number is a
majority, you'd have to know the total.

Unless you know BOTH, then you're simply fabricating numbers
again.

Or as Mark Twain said:

"There are lies, Damn lies, and Statistics"

As for being necessary.. Come ON! Playing Dig Dug is
necessary? Do look up the word in the dictionary and join me
in snickering. ;)

They can and will expand, that's agreed. Unless mold and
mildew is cleaned up, it does the same.

That just means some poor pirate sap will lose his cable
account in time. Maybe a long time. I'll do my best to
throw hand grenades down their shorts. ;)

*> If you like, we can 'agree to disagree'.

We do that so well. ;)

 *>
 *> ....

years.

now,
*>> you've never put forth a legitimate programming effort.

 *> You can tell that?

You would put that kind of limit on your own return? You'd
either be an idiot or a Saint. If there's any difference.

*> So long as we have things as we wish them to be, all
will be well.

Wishing doesn't make it so, Rosy... You've got Disney on the
brain. ;)

 *> Enjoy the celebration!

yay... whee...

I'm underwhelmed. ;)
