Bev's right.  If you are going to highball, bid exactly what you are willing to
pay, no more.  Then if it gets there, you will not be upset.

But that is how shill bidding can work.  If someone has put up a bid such as
yours they can keep bidding the price up without haveing to worry about getting
the highest bid.

I know, how do they know?  I guess that is a bug in my thought process.

But I think my first thought needs repeating, just bid what you are willing to
pay and no more.  Then you cannot be shocked by a final price that you are not
willing to pay.
