II GS Boot disk and Battery
I received such excellent help from this group that I thought it a
good idea to report back on the results, and ask another question. :-)
I couldn't get my II GS to boot from the 6.0.1 "System" disk. It turns
out the problem lies in which flavor or Macintosh is used to create
the disks. When I created a system disk with an LC 475, or a Classic,
it boots just fine. However, a Power Macintosh created disk will not
work (in my experience) in a II GS.
It's nice to have my GS back again. Now, I need to get a hard drive
for it.
But, before I do that, I need to replace the battery. Is there a
viable alternative to unsoldering the original Lithium battery and
soldering another in its place? They don't die often enough to warrant
installing a box, such as the vintage Macs have, or last model SEs.
What's the best way to go?
