     Yes; a standard 3.6 Volt, 1.2AH replacement battery is good for a long
stretch-- the larger the AH rating the more juice you have. Marking "+",
snipping the lead (about 1.5" from the motherboard), and soldering the new
battery to the snipped leads is not much bother every 7 years or so. (Use good
quality rosin-core solder. Long-nose pliers or a similar tool is helpful to
keep heat from losening the motherboard leads when tinning them.)

     If you want to avoid soldering, you can try Duncan Entwisle's idea of
using the springy connectors from a Radio Shack electronics experimenter kit to
connect a new battery's leads to snipped leads from the motherboard. Radio
Shack may offer the connectors as a separate item. Our IIgs is still using a
battery with spring connectors which used to be supplied by Nite Owl.
