     Let's see ...

Approximately two weeks ago you post a message noting that you've read the
FAQs and discovered that you need a ROM upgrade in order to expand your TWGS
memory. You request help with obtaining the firmware code for the needed v1.8
EPROM which you say you can burn yourself.

Within a day, Tom tells you that he will locate the code and make it
available for download from his on-line 'zine.

Plus, a few days later, you are given this information:

>>
A possible alternative is to go to SHH Systeme's web page and click the email
link to ask about getting a PROM. (See http://www.wbwip.com/shh/twgscache.html
.)
>>

By the way, the above info is included in the FAQs.

As promised, Tom provides the v1.8 PROM code and a URL you can click to
obtain it (approximately a week ago). Dain Neater posts a mild criticism
suggesting that Tom has no right to post the ROM code.

Your response to being told (twice) where and how and for how much to
obtain the EPROM as well as being given a way to download the code if you like
is to note that someone has sent you the EPROM which you can copy and complain
about "nastiness" and "rancor" on the newsroup.

Once again (a third time) contacting SHH via email is mentioned as an
option.

Then, both Supertimer and Dain tell you that the EPROM is available from
SHH.

So, after two weeks of being told to contact SHH-- once in the FAQs, twice
by the FAQs Keeper and two more times by different users-- something clicks and
you announce that you have decided to order from SHH:

> so I'll order one from him, and a daughtercard as well, in an attempt to
> return to the ranks of the god-fearing law-abiding politically-correct.

There is never any thanks to Tom for making the code available; and, now, one
wonders what happens to the guy who sent you the v1.8 PROM to copy and expects
you to burn another copy for him (as you agreed to do).

Easy to 'get religion' now, isn't it.

As for whether the code should be available for downloading, Dain's
comments might apply if SHH were making anything on EPROM sales. At SHH's low
price, this is not the case. In fact, when you factor in the hassle of putting
together a package and mailing it, SHH probably loses on any sale of just the
chip.

The only reason for making the v1.8 EPROM available is that the part is
required in order for SHH's TWGS memory expansion to function. Very likely, SHH
wishes more users would download the code (or copy it from a friend's EPROM)
and burn their own EPROMs.

Kind of difficult since, in this entire business, you are the only one who
has used crude language.

LOL!
