Ah, I see now. You meant architecture advantages _of the competition_. Basically that efficiency of design will fall if the competition can put more brute force beind their design that the efficient design can't also apply. I thought "would make up for" was an internal reference of the same processor, and wondered why speed would need to make up for an advantage (it would make up for a disadvantage in the same processor).

I would have said "would effectively counter" in that case. But anyway, thanks for the clarification. :-)
