Re: Ultima I for IIGS

Hi Donald,

My son is a huge Ultima fan. He had the order in for the latest
game before it was even finished. I think he was just sent the
bug fix release too. Plus, he has the latest PC collection and
before that he had at least one other collection of the newer
games.

Even if the copyrights are by individual programs, I think there
may also be the issue of copyrighted themes. Sort of like a
story line.

It may be flawed, but here's my understanding of this. Keep in
mind that the copyright laws have been updated since the Apple 2
era and I don't know which version of the law this particular
program falls into.

Issues of ownership also depend upon who the programmer was
working for when he created the program. If he was actually in the
employ of Origin (or whoever) while writing the program for them
then they would own all copyrights. Whereas, if he was contracted
to create the program, he owns the copyright and the company was
simply purchasing the rights to publish.

I think Origin actually owns the PC games or at least the latest
versions.
