Actually it may be worse than what you mention. Early 2c models
had a bug in the hardware which limited it to only 9600 baud as the
reliable maximum. This was supposed to be fixable with a
motherboard upgrade to the unidisk version. However, I have seen
some of these unidisk motherboards which only connect at 9600
also. Later models were able to reach the 19200 limit, but this is
the port transfer speed so a modem will only manage a 14.4k
connection. All in all, this should be acceptable for a shell
account since most (if not all) of the data will be text. The
added benefit is some really good error correction.
