    Burger Bill rewrote Ultima I out of love entirely to be Apple IIGS "native".
I remember vaguely that after the project completed, he talked to Richard
Garriot (aka Lord British) about it and he was given permission by Richard to
distribute it.

    I'd be in the opinion that the names "Ultima" and the names of the
characters duplicated in Ultima I will fall under Origin/EA's trademarks, and he
was given permission to use it, and whether royalities were given from the
proceeds of the sales, we will never know.

    Putting Ultima I as a reclassified software title would, I guess, needing
Burger Bill to seek permission Origin/EA first I guess.
