Hold down Closed Apple and Control and press Reset.  Let
the self test do the work.  If the self test reports the IIe is
OK, then most likely, your boot disk has died due to bit-rot.
The magnetic image stored on floppy does not last forever
but must be rewritten every decade or so to restore integrity.
Most users just copy to new disks, but since the disks are
rare and physically ok most of the time, copying them to
themselves usually fixes the problem.

You can get a new boot disk from http://www.byteworks.org/
Byte Works.  Or get a hard disk to play with called the
Focus, an internal plug and play unit from
http://www.allelec.com/ Alltech Electronics.  The Focus
becomes a big boot disk.
